A new idea pertaining to the history of Riverside has been submitted for consideration to the
E M Lages Research Institute as a project. The basis for the project will encompass the
Original Square Mile, including Redwood. The purpose would be to build a database containing
the address every person who has lived within the designated area. A limit on the expanse has
been suggested not to exceed the year 1935. Placement of information would be added on the
RiversideHistory.org site as regular updates. Let us know what your thoughts are, using the above links.

The purpose of this project has been to create a place that will allow anyone to view a list of Pioneers, who
lived in the City of Riverside and the Pioneers who lived in Riverside County. The time frame focus begins
within San Bernardino County, as The City of Riverside was created in 1870. Then, extend through the
depression, about 1941. References from Joan H. Hall's books published in 2003 and 2005, will briefly
extend our time frame into 1990's as Mrs. Hall presented in her books, allowing a certain consistency.

The Em Lages Research Institute, was created in November of 2000, in order to increase the available know-
ledge of the neighborhood in and around the City of Riverside, particularly in the Original Square Mile. This area
was designated from 1st Street to 14th Street, north to south and, from Olive to Pine. Various sources start
different streets as the border. This original interest has increased over the years and currently encompasses
a much broader area as additional reference material became available.

This project creates a place that allows anyone to view information on Riverside Pioneers and their history. There
are many books of biographies that have information relevant to Riverside Pioneers from the 1870's through today.
This project begins with information in 1879 and extends to about 1935. It brings to light names of Pioneer children,
Pioneer women with their Maiden names, and of course the Riverside Pioneer Men. When Riverside address and
the jobs these people worked at inside the City of Riverside have been added as they are located.

The Em Lages Research Institute was created in November of 2000, for the purpose of increasing  knowledge of
our City of Riverside, particularly in the Original Square Mile. These areas have been designated as, 1st Street to
14th Street, going from north to south and, Olive Street to Pine Street, going from east to west. Making this
information available in one place that has been sorted, will help any person who is curious about Riverside's history.
The Original Square Mile Project is underway currently. It is an extensive project and will take some time to complete.
